Wednesday, May 02, 2007
Alex Curry, Notre Dame Class of 2004, has received an internship this summer with the Cirque du Soleil in Las Vegas, Nevada. Alex is the son of David and Donna Curry of Signal Mountain and Lori and Tony Smith of Ooltewah. He is currently finishing his junior year at East Tennessee State University on full scholarship through the Arts Honors program with a major in technical theatre. He will be working with one of the four Cirque troupes based in Las Vegas, designing and managing the lighting, sound, rigging and other technical aspects of the production. Upon graduation he plans to pursue a technical theatre career with a concentration in lighting.
Alex developed his love of theatre under the tutelage of John Lennon, who began teaching theatre at NDHS 8 years ago. Alex was the first NDHS student to receive a state scholarship in technical theatre. He was also the first NDHS student to attend the Tennessee Governor’s School for the Arts in technical theatre. Last summer he returned to Notre Dame to assist Mr. Lennon with the theatre workshops offered at NDHS, mentoring students in set design, lighting and sound.
